Despite modern electronic navigation systems, the magnetic
compass remains the basic and most reliable navigation instrument on
your vessel. Have the confidence of a well adjusted, accurate compass.
I am interested in and knowledgable about many aspects of marine
navigation. My backround includes 27 years of active duty in the U.S.
Navy, navigation officer of two navy warships (diesel and nuclear powered
submarines), and helping to manage a freighter shipping company and a marine
electronics firm. I've spent numerous years of recreational time crewing
and skippering racing sailboats, including extensive experience navigating
ocean racing sailboats. Most recently, located in S E Florida, I have made
an avocation of compass adjusting, frequently assisting boaters, yachtsmen,
and the skippers of ocean going ships with "swinging" their vessels
to measure and correct magnetic compass deviation. I enjoy discussing compasses
and other marine navigation subjects. Let me have your comments
